As absolutely everyone living in one knows, space in dorms is limited and decorating can be a challenge. But if you’re like me, decorating for fall, and especially Halloween, is an absolute must. So without further ado, here are some practical, space-effective ways to show your love for the season of crunchy leaves and pumpkin spice while on a college budget.
LED Lights: This is one of the cheapest and most versatile and practical decorations you have in your dorm!. If you have RGB, you can customize to whatever color you want it to be! (I recommend orange, red, or yellow for fall, and orange and purple for Halloween). You can also get Halloween LED string lights. I have one set that flashes orange and purple, and one set where the lights are shaped like bats and ghosts! Places like Amazon are always going to have LED lights, but I also look at places like Marshall’s and Michaels for good deals. Michaels is dangerous when it comes to seasonal decor!
Throw Blankets: Patterned throw blankets are a surefire way to add some cozy fall vibes to your down, which taking up less space than a throw pillow might. Draped over a chair or added to your bed immediately adds some autumn cheer to your space! They’re also more practical than other decor: you can get a fall or Halloween blanket right as the weather starts to cool down, and you want some extra warmth. I always see such cute throw blankets at places like Marshall’s and TJ Max, and they come some with some affordable prices, too!
Wax Melts: Most dorms don’t allow open flames like candles, so for some of that signature pumpkin spice latte scent, try some wax melts! These are perfect for adding to your fall ambiance. Diffusers are also great if they’re in your budget.
A Treat Bowl: For Halloween specifically, putting a Jack-O-Lantern or other themed bowl full of candy on your desk can be a great way to theme your space (and make new friends! Everyone loves free candy). Bowls and candy packs are easy to get at any store around October, especially dollar stores. Just be careful with your trash and crumbs when keeping candy in your dorm! No one wants a bug infestation.
Some of the best stores I’ve found for seasonal products at good prices are stores like Marshalls, TJ Max, and Ross, as well as various dollar stores. For a college dorm, goods like that are perfect! I also love looking for Michaels and Target deals, they always have great seasonal stuff!
I hope you can use some of these ideas to pumpkin-spice-up your college dorm!
Cosmic wishes,
Venus
